NCL WHEN CUBA CALLS
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings anticipates being a phone call away from launching Oceania cruises to Cuba this fall. “We’re waiting for the phone to ring,” said president and CEO of NCLH, Frank Del Rio. “Operations are imminent of when we receive the green light.”
The hope is to have Oceania Regatta (684 passenger capacity) make the first sailing on November 1, followed by Oceania Marina (1258 passenger capacity) in the first quarter of 2017.
Both ships are small enough to be accommodated by Cuba’s port facilities.
Del Rio commented that they also have plans to send Norwegian Sky to Cuba and are looking at a number of itineraries that concentrate on Cuba alone or include Cuba in Panama Canal cruises.
Carnival Corporation’s Fathom Travel, has been sending passengers to Cuba on its cruise ship, Adonia, since May.
