UP AND AWAY Proposed cable car for Toronto

An idea for a new tourist attraction in Toronto is being given consideration for two reasons - the plan does not require public funds and the nature of the installation can serve as a people mover. Mayor John Tory calls the idea exciting.

Canadian/Swiss company, Bullwheel International Cable Car Corp has proposed a $25 million project to build a gondola from Danforth Avenue to Bayview Avenue. The Don Valley cable car would take up to four years to build. It will go forward if it meets public and civic approvals. Tory says it is always beneficial to move people. “I don’t know why we’d reject any means of getting people around,” he said.According to The Don Valley Cable Car website, the plan is “To create an environmentally-friendly and iconic piece of recreational infrastructure that bridges the span between the Broadview & Danforth neighbourhood and the Evergreen Brick Works site.”“We’re trying to come to grips with what kinds of ways we can provide people greater access to the ravines without being too obtrusive... The concept of a cable car that goes through some land that is beautiful and scenic is very appealing,” said Tory.Bullwheel will put the plan before a public information meeting on March 8 at Estonian House at 958 Broadview Ave.CEO Steven Dale describes the gondola as a “recreational infrastructure” similar to the Toronto Island ferries with a round-trip ride $10 on average. There would be annual and family passes. He said in keeping with other countries, locals would pay less than tourists.https://www.donvalleycablecar.com/
