Melia Las Dunas Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba
By April | Trip to Santa Maria de Dulcis, Spain
“Best resort”
This was my third trip to Cayo Santa Maria Melia Las Dunas. My first in 2010, then 2012, and again 2016. This will continue to be the resort of my choice. Changes I have notice from 2012 is you now have to pay for lobster where it used to be included on the buffet and at the seafood restaurant. 12 cuc it will cost you. The best place to have it is in the Romantico Restaurant as it is oven prepared and moist rather than grilled at the seafood restaurant. Unfortunately the beach is washed up from a past hurricane. So if the waves are high it is difficult to sit at the beach. Take advantage and walk down (south) to t he Memories and walk through and visit the market at the village next door. There is one in Melia Las Dunas as well by the disco. I have been to Cuba many times and this is overall my choice of destination. Fresh fish, chicken, calamari and pork and beef on the grill at lunch beside the beer garden. I overall have no complaints. Beware however. I have always used a transition plug to access their hydro. This time however using it blew my friends two hair equipment. A straightener and a dryer. This time I was able to charge phone, heat curlers, etc. without the use of the adapter for hydro. Great that there is an adult and children pool area.
The strong pointsThe distance of the beaches if you enjoy walking and exploring the coast. The two markets if you enjoy a little shopping. The vintage cars and drivers just outside the hotel. The piano bar/lobby bar. Three board walks to ocean with bars. Beer garden. The weak pointsBeach has been washed up and damaged.
