The concept of a luxury hotel room is sinking to an all-time low if Tony Webb is successful. The managing director of Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel has received a US patent to develop a luxury, boutique hotel room with a surrounding ocean view. It will be built 30 feet (9.1 metres) below the water’s surface and will cost about $3,000 a night.
The guestroom is expected to be 18”x 12” (5.5 m x 3.65 m) and will have an elevator and support vessel. It will be furnished with a Neptune sized bed, bathroom, living room, entertainment space (including WiFi) and a refrigerator. Web told Fox News "Imagine you are in 150 feet of excellent visibility water, now what do you want to do? You can scuba, hookah and snorkel and most importantly enjoy the underwater view with your significant other." The room is expected to cost US $3 ($4.1) million. If the concept is successful, expanding it to a complete underwater hotel with 12 rooms is expected to cost US $20 ($27.3) million.
The website promises’ The panoramic views of the surrounding environment will be in constant flux as the passing sun and moon cast ever changing shadows and reflections on the underwater features, and aquatic life moves gracefully around them.’ The prototype will be constructed in Key West, Florida where Planet Ocean is located.
