SAN JUAN WELCOME Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas
The world's biggest cruise ship has docked in Puerto Rico for the first time as the US territory reports a boost in tourism amid an economic crisis. Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas arrived Wednesday in the historic district of the capital of San Juan. The ship can carry up to 6,700 passengers and 2,300 crewmembers.
The arrival follows an $8 million port renovation, and Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla said Puerto Rico expects to welcome a record 1.7 million cruise ship passengers next year.
Wine Appreciation
European Waterways announced a new Wine Appreciation theme charter cruise aboard the 8-passenger hotel barge Rosa, which cruises the Canal de Garonne through Bordeaux in France. This “voyage of discovery” for oenophiles through one of the world’s greatest wine-growing regions will feature private tours and tastings at some long-established wineries producing grand cru and premier cru wines, such as Château Beau-Sejour-Becot near the famous town of Saint-Emilion, itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
