Peru Odyssey

This 8-day Peru vacation takes you from the capital Lima to the archaeological wonders of Cusco and Machu Picchu to Pisco and the Nazca Lines. Stay in premium accommodations as you explore the wonders of this South American nation.

Your Peruvian vacation begins in Lima, the capital of Peru and one of the driest capitals in the world. This fog-draped city offers up history, food, and nightlife so no matter your interests, you’ll find something to suit you here. A city tour will make sure you don’t miss the highlights of the colonial era, such as the Plaza de Armas, the city’s 16th-century heart, as well as the Larco Herrera Museum, which showcases pre-colonila art. Apart from the tour, you’re free to explore the city on your, surveying its architectural wonders and feasting on its gastronomic pleasures.

Pass from Peru’s capital to Cusco, the oldest continuously-inhabited city on the continent. If Lima is the toast of modern Peru, Cusco is its cultural heart. It served as the capital of the Inca Empire for 500 years before the Spanish invaded in the 16th century. Today, it’s a city boasting colonial buildings and vibrant city squares and boulevards at every turn. Take a city tour to explore some of the city’s historical landmarks, including the Inca ruins of Kenko and Sacsayhuaman Fortress and the colonial Cusco Cathedral.

Head into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, stopping by Moray to see the remarkable amphitheatre-like bowls the Incas carved out of the hillside and Maras to see the famous salt pools. The crown jewel of the valley is Machu Picchu, the most popular archaeological site in South America and possibly the entire world. Machu Picchu has an undeniable air of mystery to it. The city remained hidden for centuries, unknown to the conquering Spaniards, until American explorer Hiram Bingham visited the site in 1911. Of course, not even a story can match the actual experience of visiting Machu Picchu itself. As you explore its dry-stone walls and sky terraces, it’ll be as if you’re walking among the clouds. Breathe in the fresh air and take it all in. This is truly one of the wonders of the world.

Return to Cusco and connect to Pisco, the picturesque town on the coast that lends its name to the famous Peruvian brandy. Opt for an excursion to the Ballestas Islands if you want to explore more of the coastline. Then fly high into the air on a trip over the famous Nazca Lines, the mysterious geoglyphs of plants and animals made centuries ago by unknown creators. View shapes of monkeys and trees from high above before landing and connecting back to Lima for your onward journey.
