This week Canadian travellers from the east coast to the west coast benefited from announcements of new routes from domestic and an American airline to destinations across the US border and one to the land down-under.
Air Canada Toronto to San Antonio
On May 1, Air Canada launched daily non-stop service between San Antonio and Toronto. San Antonio, which hosts some 34 million visitors a year, counts Canada among its top international leisure market. Air Canada will fly an Embraer E175, a narrow-body, medium-range craft. The plane includes nine business-class seats and 64 economy seats.
Air Canada: Montreal to Phoenix
Air Canada will add a nonstop flight between Phoenix and Montreal starting in 2017 from Feb. 22 to May 28 annually.
They will offer three weekly flights between Sky Harbor International Airport and Montreal in the winter and spring months.
Air Canada: Vancouver to Melbourne
Air Canada will offer four-times weekly service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Melbourne Airport (MEL) on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The service is from December 1, 2017 to February 4, 2018.
Air Canada Rouge: Vancouver to Orlando
Air Canada Rouge will also start twice-weekly service between Vancouver and Orlando International Airport (MCO) from December 20, 2017 to April 8, 2018.
WestJet: Calgary to Nashville
This week WestJet announced twice weekly non-stop service between Calgary and Nashville on Boeing 737 aircraft.
The WestJet service to Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority is the second route WestJet has added in less than a year. The airliner launched service from Toronto in June 2016. This will be BNA's very first nonstop flight to Calgary.
Elite Airways: Halifax to Portland Maine
US based Elite Airways will have three weekly flights from Halifax to Portland, Maine starting at the end of June, using The Bombardier-built CRJ-200 jets, but hopes to switch to the CRJ-700s which have a seating capacity of 70.
The schedule allows passengers to catch a connecting flight to Florida with the hope that eventually Elite will offer direct service from Halifax to Florida.

Portland

Melbourne
Melbourne is the capital and most populous city in the state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia. The Melbourne City Centre (also known as the "Central Business District" or "CBD") is the hub of the greater geographical area (or "metropolitan area") and the Census statistical division—of which "Melbourne" is the common name. As of June 2009, the greater geographical area had an approximate population of four million. In Southbank, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is site of Arts Centre Melbourne – a performing arts complex – and National Gallery of Victoria, displaying Australian and Indigenous art.
Calgary
Calgary is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. In the 2011 census, the City of Calgary had a population of 1,096,833 and a metropolitan population of 1,214,839, making it the largest city in Alberta, and the third-largest municipality and fifth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada. The economy of Calgary includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors. The Calgary CMA is home to the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada among the country's 800 largest corporations.
Montreal
Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and the second-largest city in Canada. Originally called Ville-Marie, or City of Mary, the city takes its present name from Mont Royal, the triple-peaked hill located in the heart of the city, whose name was also initially given to the island on which the city is located, or Mont Real as it was spelled in Middle French, Mont Royal in present french.
Phoenix
Phoenix is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Arizona, as well as the fifth most populated city in the United States. It is home to 1,601,587 people according to the 2009 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, and is the anchor of the Phoenix metropolitan area (also known as the Valley of the Sun), the 12th largest metro area by population in the United States with more than 4.3 million people. In addition, Phoenix is the county seat of Maricopa County, and is one of the largest cities in the United States by land area. Settled in 1867 as an agricultural community near the confluence of the Salt and Gila Rivers, it's well known for high-end spa resorts, Jack Nicklaus–designed golf courses and vibrant nightclubs. Other highlights include the Desert Botanical Garden, displaying cacti and numerous native plants.
San Antonio
San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is a major city in south-central Texas with a rich colonial heritage. It is the seventh most populated city in the United States of America and the second most populated city in the state of Texas. It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000. The city straddles Central Texas and South Texas and is on the southwestern corner of an urban mega region known as the Texas Triangle. San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is on June 13, by a 1691 Spanish expedition in the area. It is notable for Spanish colonial missions, the Alamo, the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. The city is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the country. The missions of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park along with the Alamo, became part of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites on July 5, 2015. The San Antonio Missions became the 23rd U.S. site on the World Heritage List, which includes the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty.
Orlando
Orlando is a major city in the central region of the U.S. state of Florida. It is the county seat of Orange County, and the center of the Greater Orlando metropolitan region. The Orlando metropolitan area has a population of 2,082,628 and it is the 27th largest metropolitan area in the United States, the 5th largest metropolitan area in the Southeastern United States, and the 3rd largest metro area in Florida. The city-proper population is 235,860 making Orlando the 80th largest city in the "United States". It is Florida's fifth largest city by population. Orlando was incorporated on July 31, 1875, and became a city in 1885.
Nashville
Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County. It is located on the Cumberland River in Davidson County, in the north-central part of the state. The city is a center for the health care, music, publishing, banking and transportation industries, and is home to a large number of colleges and universities. Nashville is the home of the Country Music genre and is dubbed "Music City".
