Madagascar
Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, and previously known as the Malagasy Republic, is an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Southeast Africa. The nation comprises the island of Madagascar (the fourth-largest island in the world), and numerous smaller peripheral islands. Consequently, Madagascar is a biodiversity hotspot; over 90% of its wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth. It's home to thousands of animal species, such as lemurs, found nowhere else, plus rainforests, beaches and reefs.
Antananarivo
Antananarivo, is the capital and largest city in Madagascar. It is also known by its French colonial shorthand form Tana. The larger urban area surrounding the city, known as Antananarivo-Renivohitra, is the capital of Analamanga Region. The city is known for its mild climate. Overlooking the city, the Rova of Antananarivo palace complex was the center of the Merina kingdom from the 17th century. Antananarivo is the political, economic, educational and cultural heart of Madagascar. The city also hosts the largest number of universities, nightclubs, art venues, medical services and other social service institutions of any city on the island. Several national and local sports teams, including the championship-winning national rugby team, the Makis, and several basketball and football teams, are based in Antananarivo.
