About China
Costa Cruise has been serving Asian passengers since 2006,
Renowned screenwriter, film director, and producer Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor embarked on an eight-night Transatlantic Crossing on Cunard's flagship ocean liner Queen Mary 2 on July 24.
"Beautiful voyage," he said once he disembarked in Southampton, England. "Everyone was so gracious and attentive to us." Coppola has previously sailed across the Atlantic on Cunard's famed QE2 but this was his first time on the recently re-mastered Queen Mary 2.
WATCHIN' THE SUN BAKE
Jimmy Buffett’s brand Margaritaville has done well with Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Escape so this week it was announced that Margaritaville at Sea restaurants will open aboard Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway this fall. Two Landshark Bars will be added to the Norwegian private islands Harvest Caye in Belize (November 2016) and on Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas (summer 2017).
Critics complain that the cruise line is replacing free dining venues with a la carte ones.
PARTNERS
Carnival Corporations Fathom has developed a partnership with Aribnb where people who sign up to become a new host with Airbnb will receive a credit for a cruise to the Dominican Republic or Cuba. The programme started August 9.
FIRST TO CERTIFY
Costa Cruise has been serving Asian passengers since 2006, with four out of their 15 ships positioned regularly in China and Asia. The cruise line recently applied for a halal certificate to attract Muslim passengers.
“When it’s ready, we’ll be the first European cruise line that has such a certificate,” said marketing director for Pacific Asia operations, Eunice Lee, during the cruise’s 10th anniversary celebration in Jakarta last week.
FROM CRUISING TO GAMING
Former Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer Kevin Sheehan has been appointed as the new CEO and president of Scientific Games Corp. Sheehan was with the cruise line for seven years and guided the company through an initial public offering in 2013, steering the company through a tough economic climate.
